Los Angeles, CA – On September 8th, 2017, the CAUSE Veterans Initiative had its first civic leadership session at the Go for Broke National Education Center.
Dr. Mitchell T. Maki, President and CEO of the Go for Broke National Education Center, gave the Veterans Initiative fellows an introduction to the exhibit and addressed the value of veterans as community leaders.
The fellows were then given a tour of the exhibits, where they immersed themselves in the Japanese American WWII experience through interactive installations and displays.
Afterwards, the Veterans Initiative fellows headed over to Izakaya & Bar Fu-ga, where they were given a workshop on networking and community development by Kim Yamasaki, Executive Director of CAUSE, where they learned about building relationships and being resources to their communities.
Over dinner, the fellows had the opportunity to discuss various topics with The Honorable Janet Chin, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army representing California in the Greater Los Angeles area, District Director at the Office of CA State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez, and combat veteran.
She spoke on her unique experience as an APA veteran and invited the fellows to share their own experiences and perspectives on current veterans issues.
