Los Angeles, CA - On Wednesday, July 28th, CAUSE held the tenth session of the 2021 Leadership Institute virtually on Zoom.
Led by Nancy Yap, CAUSE Executive Director, and Alison De La Cruz, an Executive Arts Leader, a Cultural Organizer, a Multi-Disciplinary Theater Artist, and the Co-Artistic Director of Outside in Theatre, this session focused on exploring risk-taking with the CLI Fellows.
After a risk-taking warm-up activity, CLI Fellows were asked the following three questions:
How do you assess risk and what do you need to know before you take a risk?
What do you need to feel like a confident APA community advocate?
In a world where you are running for office, what are the factors that need to be aligned to make that happen? Is there an issue, a set of circumstances, a community of support?
In small groups, fellows practiced reflective listening skills developed in a previous session while answering the questions with each other. In the end, CLI fellows appreciated the opportunity to share, listen, and support each other more deeply.
“You are your own expert!”

VP of Programs and Training, Executive Service Corps of Southern CA (ESC), 2021 CAUSE Leadership Fellow
The CAUSE Leadership Institute (CLI) is a community leadership and advocacy training certificate program for high-potential professionals with seasoned leadership experience and a passion for serving the needs of the APA community in California. Participants complete the program armed with the skills and connections vital to advocate for the APA community. Graduates of this program have gone on to change the civic landscape in the region through elected office and leadership roles in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The 2021 program will be held virtually using Zoom.
Our program is highly selective and each member of our cohort is selected based on their leadership abilities, public service, and community involvement. Program fellows are identified by leading elected officials, select nonprofit partner organizations, CAUSE Board Members, and CAUSE Alumni.
