Los Angeles, CA -- On Wednesday, April 6, CAUSE held the sixth pod meeting of the 2022 CAUSE Leadership Institute virtually on Zoom. Pod meetings are a newly developed component of the program that focuses on building community among the cohort and deepening conversations.
Each fellow follows one of the three following tracks related to their interests and aspirations: Running for Office, Serving on a Campaign, and Serving on a Non-profit Board. Pod meeting 6 was the first full session dedicated to training fellows on these journeys.
The Running for Office and Serving on a Campaign tracks were grouped together to learn about Campaign Basics from Godfrey Plata, Community and Political Organizer, and Former Candidate. These Fellows were introduced to the fundamentals of running a campaign, including the phases of a campaign, essential resources, and insights on making the choice to run or serve.
The Serving on a Non-profit Board track examined foundational information about board service with 2021 CAUSE Leadership Institute alumnus Janet McIntyre, Vice President of Programs & Training at Executive Service Corps of Southern California. The Fellows learned about the board structures, duties and responsibilities, and what to look for when they consider serving.
QUOTES:
“Learned about the different types of boards and what they entail. Very informative session and very grateful to Podmates for sharing their input as well.”
“Take the courage to ask for funds and continually follow up; more people are willing to give than you may think.”
